While the majority of right-wing attacks on Fauci have been spurious, it's a mistake for him to say "I represent science." Science is a process, not a person. As a process, it tends to be haphazard and make its share of mistakes & requires public scrutiny. Covid has shown that.https://twitter.com/kylegriffin1/status/1465304537468653572 …

And here we are with the 'I didn't understand what he was saying and now I have to defend my ridiculous interpretation and lecture him anyway'. Dude, you're better than this.
-
Yeah, actually
@HeerJeet is not better than this.

I suspect that is easier to do, when you aren't personally on the receiving death threats. Not that I am defending the sloppy syntax, just it is more important to call out your first point (science as a process) in general.

Seems like quite a trip to where average American's understanding or concern for empiricism or the scientific method would be impacted by this. You can't harm something that doesn't exist.

Yeah, that would be a good argument for him to make -- agree there

He’s a doctor, you guys, not a language person (or an excellent journalist!)

The people he’s speaking about would just argue against that in bad faith too though.

Fauci really needs to take the spotlight off of himself instances like this because when he makes 1 tiny slip up he is used as the supreme and only authority by the right wing which is way off base. There's a world wide collection of scientists doing this work and it's better...
-
if the right can see that they're dismissing and belittling all of the work done by so many instead of painting it as just 1 person as if he has the last say or has ultimate authority.
