Agree. That sounds extremely presumptuous to me, and will further alienate.

Come on. You know what he meant.

He suggested he's a state science commissar. And that's a bad thing to suggest!

That's not what he's saying, come on. He's saying that he represents a focal point for attacks on science.

From the context, I took this to mean, "I represent science [to them]"
-
This is the correct and proper reading of that quote. The clause before "represent" creates the context.

The process is not haphazard. The interpretation of that process is. Even in time sensitive matters scientists generally advocate for caution. Then non-science media gets a hold of things and presents preliminary findings as iron-clad proof.

Disagree. In the political sphere, he represents the science and scientists that developed the COVID vaccine and treatments. The fact that he has remained professional and stood up for more than a year to these slanderous dangerous attacks is amazing.

This is an interesting spin on what Dr. Fauchi said. It's wrong, and that you'd choose to spin this way speaks to your character, not his.

I think he probably means they are using him as a symbol or stand in for science. It's more effective for them to attack a specific person than just science in general. He probably could have phrased that more clearly though. His point is a good one though.
