Every time Thanos & "the snap" is alluded to in the MCU universe, I'm reminded that it makes no narrative sense. Such an even would be massively disruptive -- think of Covid times a million -- yet is treated as, "oh yeah, remember that freaky thing that happened?"https://twitter.com/pashulman/status/1464265944088338442 …

I kinda feel like it would make sense for the foreseeable future in the MCU that we should learn which of the new characters had been snapped and which hadn’t. Had Kate Bishop and her family been snapped?

I mean, just imagine if humanity actually did encounter god-like creatures, one of whom made half of all life disappear. And then the disappeared (unaged) returned. That would cause massive human and cultural disruption. In MCU it's just thing that happened.

It's strange that nearly decades after Alan Moore did a superhero story where superheroes are actually transformative, the standard narrative arc is still catastrophe>heroic victory>return to status quo ante.

I think the winter soldier/falcon show was supposed to go into this but suffered from massive last second rewrites.

Major storyline was supposed to be focused on a pandemic and was written before COVID

Mostly because Watchmen wasn't meant to be emulated The narrative roles of superheroes don't work in an unrecognizable earth and it would just be scifi or fantasy

I would throw out there that there's a certain historical logic to treating narratives that way, given the origins of comic books as we know them post WWII. After all, the world wars literally *ended* entire ways of life. And yet much of the planet kind of just... went on.

How much of the European and Asian population was killed? Whole empires were basically destroyed. An entire branch of Jewish culture effectively wiped out. Cities blasted. And ultimately, the changes were not *that* radical, for a lot of people.

If things didn't revert to the status quo, the world would quickly degenerate into a dystopian hellscape under the impact of annual alien invasions, reality inversions, demonic invasions and mad scientist doomsday device activations. It wouldn't be the same sort of entertainment.

That’s exactly what I thought when I saw Infinity War. They kind of went too big and didn’t think it through. I realize I’m in the minority.
