It's really not the end point. It's a basic principle of Roman Law (from which our concepts of property derive) that the right of ownership includes the right to waste and destroy.

the “improvement” of land was never abt a claim to “usefulness”, only productivity, eg profitability. the claim to destruction of the land is thus inherent in the justification. to destroy the thing to make it “better”

Well freedom for humans means we can do whatever, even destroy ourselves. That was the first way freedom was defined when the ancestors still lived in trees. All the rest of "freedom" and it's limits is just created to undo or contain that 1st sentiment.
