2. Eternals is better seen as a work of theological science fiction (a tradition that stretches from Milton to Wyndham Lewis to C.S. Lewis to Gene Wolfe) more than a superhero movie. Like those works, it translates the Abrahamic mythos into technological sublime

3. Like the Abrahamic tradition, Eternals posits a sky god creator (the Celestials) overseeing a spectrum of created sentient beings (angels/eternals, humans, deviants/devils), some of whom obey the Name and some who revolt against Him/It/Them.

4. Eternals is getting a critical drubbing, the first MCU movie to get predominately negative reviews. Which is odd because, while flawed, it's a much more interesting movie than the run-of-the-mill MCU norm. Fusion of Zhao & MCU didn't always work but very provocative.

5. Anyways,
@RobinGanev & I have some thoughts on Chloé Zhao, Eternals, John Milton, William Blake, Erich Anton Paul von Däniken, theological science fiction, Charles Darwin, evolutionary theory as theodicy, and much more, here:https://jeetheer.substack.com/p/podcast-why-critics-are-wrong-about?r=bh54&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&utm_source= …Show this thread

I am sure not enough people were able to stay awake in it to gain a sense of how those issues played out in the movie.

It was originally Kirby's thing after he did "The New Gods", and basically has a lot of the same kinds of themes and myth-borrowing that he started with TNG. As a thing, DC kind of has an "all religions are true" thing. Marvel's deal is "all religions are based on something."

This movie had the fun distinction of indicating that DC heroes still exist as fiction in the MCU.

For me Marvel movies are mostly a matter of fight, babble, babble, fight, babble, fight, fight, fight. It's why I can ever keep them straight in my head.

As it, I was kind of surprised that the theology of the sitcom "The Good Place" wasn't discussed more. Were people unable to get passed the manifest charm of Kristen Bell?

The Creator becomes more of an elephant in the room with every episode, especially in the last season.
