Nobility and sordidness is part of the legacy they left for us. In an evolving, just society, we could move forward and advance the noble while making amends for the sordid. It does not appear we are an evolving, just society right now.

Matter of degree. If you create something in part to oppress and subjugate, reinventing it as vehicle for something other than oppression and subjugation is going to be... a challenge
