You can say that NYC removing the Jefferson statue isn't a sweeping change. You can say that it doesn't actually hurt anyone(which is true). But it's also the kind of reframing of civic history that goes too far for a number of people.

People vote on concrete policies. They also vote on feelings. Removing the Jefferson statue tells some people they are now included, it tells others they are no longer included. It is folly to deny the real political implications of such acts.
