Just because you personally do not do something does not mean it is a bullshit straw man or does not exist https://www.dismantlingracism.org/uploads/4/3/5/7/43579015/okun_-_white_sup_culture.pdf …

The Okun stuff is being used in plenty of school districts, and it’s not great. Not used in universities so sometimes those of us teaching there don’t see it.

The challenge, such as it is, is that racist practices are far more embedded and pervasive, there are problems with the way some anti-racist frameworks are applied but the goal of an anti-racist education is a necessary one.

I think that's the reality that gets elided in these discussions; that there is bad anti-racist stuff out there because institutions who hadn't done anti-racism before ramped up post-2016, with little time for quality control. That in itself is an indictment of system!

That + the fact that many of these institutions are much more interested in checking a box on a social responsibility scorecard than in redressing white supremacy’s harms

I think criticizing this stuff as fake anti-racism is more productive (and less likely to alienate allies) than criticizing as part of program to show moderates that Dems can discipline left.

Probably should have just waited for my piece to pub before engaging on this topic. But my arg is precisely that some of this stuff is actually itself kinda racist and should be criticized as such

Will look forward to the piece. But my sense is that to the degree this stuff replicates racial essentialism (and some of it does) that's direct product of its social/political origins as consultant quick fix based in ed schools catering to panicked institutions
