What's interesting about the pilot story is it seems like the first time the left has encountered someone being overtly political at their job and it being annoying. For the right, that's regular life. Shut up and fly, right?

Also: you don't like hearing a political opinion from a pilot? We don't like our kids hearing political opinions from their teachers.

"Slavery was bad" is not a political opinion.

Sure, it is. If "slavery was bad" isn't a political opinion, than abolitionism wasn't a political movement. It's that it happens to be a political opinion with near consensus support today (though not in the 1950s or 1850s).

I think @normative hits the nail on the head here.https://twitter.com/normative/status/1454865954652004352?s=20 …

The tacit, and I think untenable, assumption here is “the lens through which others teach history is a political opinion; the lens through which I want it taught is apolitical.” (“Water?” said the perplexed fish, “What’s that?”) https://twitter.com/karol/status/1454645440859754496 …

Yeah, it's a more thoughtful response than my rejoinder.

So… there is no morality? The phrase unalienable rights is some kind of 18th century throat clearing. Really all that matters is who has power. God this discussion is bleak.
