1. This is a good thread on why the dream of an American Orban is a fantasy but the people who it is addressing won't be able to listen because it's premised on working within a democracy and they've given up on democracy.https://twitter.com/Nate_Cohn/status/1452310829458722833 …

3. As Willmoore Kendall used to say, the true American tradition isn't just the town hall but running someone out on a rail. So, the true American tradition isn't just individualism & democracy but also Jim Crow, courts & Senate thwarting popular majorities, etc.

4. It's interesting to compare Judith Butler's excellent new piece in Guardian with Rod Dreher's latest praise of Putin. Both Butler & Dreher recognize that gender reaction will require autocracy. Butler thinks that's bad, Dreher good.

lol hard to take you seriously after such a ludicrous and dishonest statement--obviously people, myself included, know you can win in the US as a minority
-
my point, though, is that winning as a minority does not make you a majority culture. instituting Orban-like policies--say, banning some gender studies programs or whatever--will not create a conservative national culture

I would like to believe that you are right re an Orban fantasy but To extent that the right minority retains power they will change the rules to make it increasingly difficult for pro-democracy majority to get back in power. The pro-dem may do so eventually but damage will bedone
