Villeneuve's Dune is at its best in terms of worldbuilding, capturing the landscape, built environment and sociology of Herbert's universe. What I missed compared to Lynch's movie are the really outlandish or creepy visual touches, navigators & Alia Atreides with her wicked grin

Not to mention the survival of archaic medieval European titles and names like Duke Vladimir Harkonnen, with a little orientalist, um, spice in the form of exotic Islamic elements--great for impressing parochial 1960s US white guys.
