all the concern-trolling for kirby's legacy from ppl who just hate mcu is touching. his career has periods, and the 70s is a divisive one. a lot of ppl back then didn't like his harsh new brutalist style. the eternals only ran 19 issues before cancellation. i love kirby –pic.twitter.com/eFSRhGJZpA
– but even i find it a slog. 1970s fans wanted his pop art look from the '60s with stan. with kirby's '70s you were in or you were out. most of his new titles were cancelled. DC and Marvel treated him terribly, but negative reactions to his uncompromising '70s art isn't new.pic.twitter.com/JvZJ89AENY
If you look at the old fanzines, even Kirby's 1960s art was controversial at the time. Most fans preferred the sleeker, more polished streamlined art of Infantino, Kane, & Toth. Kirby was seen as primitive throwback to 1940s crudity. Only Sinnot's inking changed that.
Yeah, lots of fans thought Romita was huge improvement -- just a nutso opinion to me. People really don't know how to look at art. they want fake polish.

Yeah, in the story part of the pathos is that these are old people. good character design and characterization on Ditko's part.
