The thing with this RBG business is that it's extremely weird to build a personality cult around a judge.

Friend, I don’t know what country you’re from so please accept my ignorance on that. The fact the we even know the names of judges/magistrates is toxic to justice. They’re meant to be invisible. Instruments, not people.
-
Damn, that’s some maxed out dehumanization you’ve got going on there.

Has it occurred to you that women don’t have nearly as many charismatic women politicians and women preachers to whom they might look up? Also, there are a lot of women lawyers out here. Stanning RBG beats our RW counterparts stanning Scalia — or Posner, ffs.
-
(and yes, faulty parallelism, but the liberal dudes can look up to Obama or FDR or whoever, and the RW lawyers of both sexes get weird about FedSoc leader types)

Think of it this way: if a judge is so charismatic as to become a hero... that makes them even that much more a candidate to be one.

Scalia was the best writer since Holmes and just as activist as late RBG. Scalia inspired court packing. Ruth inspired tee shirts. Earl Warren doesn’t get shirts. Judges should be lauded for their equity, not their politics.

SCOTUS justices weigh in eloquently about the biggest issues of our time. In addition, she had a compelling personal story of fighting to become a lawyer as a woman, and then using her education to fight for the rights of other women. Of course she’s a hero to many.

You could argue that a judge's charisma is more important because legal authority is dependent on linguistic persuasion relatively insulated from hard numbers problems and material determinism which might limit or propel mass movements.

The political object of a judge's charisma is a smaller mass of legal professionals than the general mass which is the political object of charismatic party leaders, but I don't think that the structure is too dissimilar.
