Umm @Nate_Cohn
Shouldn’t campaigns embrace what, umm, er, maybe, sorta, kinda, the ideas they believe in and got them to run for public office?
MAYBE THAT?
Maybe?

Politicians might come from an activist background, but they'll always have different incentives, which is all that's being pointed out, here.

this is also why in particular the "defund" portion of the argument is so stupid. the targets of "defund the police" activists are incredibly safe dem super-majorities in city legislatures/mayors

The problem with the Democrats is that instead of campaigning conservatively and ruling like activists, they campaign like activists and rule conservatively. You keep the necessary but unpopular ideas under your hat until you're in a position to implement them.

The irony of course is that Sanders spooked them because he campaigned like an activist, but the wrong kind of activism. Anyway I'm just throwing ideas out there, hoping they make some sense. I've sort of given up on US politics lately - they're all irredeemable.

Activists should absolutely try to make good but unpopular policies into popular policies. And politicians should absolutely denounce those unpopular activists and policies until the activists have succeeded.
