3. The fact that Trump got some traction on this message shows how there are real tradeoffs. Biden was right to run on Covid, politically because it gained him more votes than it lost, but also more importantly a policy matter (it was the right & necessary message).
4. I suppose Biden & his team could have calibrated message a bit more (emphasizing, as occasionally done, that path to economic recovery was through covid being vanquished). But messaging can only get you so far. Politics has tough choices.
5. More broadly, discussion of 2020 election would benefit from looking at actual arguments Biden made (and Trump also) rather than assuming it was a contest between, I dunno, AOC versus Trump. (Same for 2016 & Clinton/Trump).
6. Both after the narrow loss of 2016 and the narrow win of 2020, establishment Dems have avoided an autopsy of the actual campaign run by their side, blaming instead outside factors (which, to be sure, played a role).
Nobody gets bigger handouts than rich people. Look at the Pentagon budget and who it goes to.
And the Biden campaign didn't do nearly enough to expose this false dichotomy.
