To be clear, this a Reuters editor responding to a situation in which Andy Ngo, whatever you think of him, undeniably scooped multiple major outlets that treated an alleged sex crime with multiple victims, including a girl, as a hoax. That's the level of professionalism we're athttps://twitter.com/mgerrydoyle/status/1446268467481513985 …

Do you think Andy Ngo did a worse job on the Wi Spa story than the Guardian and Slate?

I don't think that's the most significant thing about Ngo.

This is such an insane waste of time. I wrote a paywalled article making certain points about what a bad sign is that Andy Ngo, of all people, could outperform major outlets on this piece. I didn't say anything about any of the stuff you're talking about.

What do you get out of jumping in to argue about a piece you haven't read? Isn't this just really pointless Twitter fighting over almost nothing?

My interest here is I think it's important to be frank about who and what Ngo is.

Without putting words in Jeet's mouth, in the non-paywalled portion of the article you referred to Ngo as "a journalist whose views I disagree with." Which seems like exactly kind of failure to be frank about who and what Ngo actually is that he's referring to.

In which case it should be even MORE troubling that he covered a story more accurately than Slate or the Guardian. (Which was the point of the piece you have not read but feel compelled to comment publicly on.)

But that is exactly the point! Ngô is a charlatan, which is exactly why we should expect mainstream media outlets do better journalism than he does. In this specific case, they were hopelessly wrong while he wasn't. The fact that he's awful is precisely why that's damaging.

I think "did a better job" is doing a lot of work. Andy Ngo is a conservative who takes an antagonistic view towards trans issues. If a crazy guy on the street yells every day that it is going to rain, and one day it does when the weatherman said it wasn't, is this significant?
