Jeffrey Sachs Retweeted Dorian Schuyler Abbot

Dorian Abbot, who has been a vocal and vociferous critic of DEI initiatives, has been deplatformed from a prestigious lecture at MIT, following an outcry from some students, activists, and others in his field.https://twitter.com/DorianAbbot/status/1444335907851718660 …

      Jeffrey Sachs added,

      Dorian Schuyler Abbot @DorianAbbot
EAPS at MIT is a great department full of excellent scientists who I admire and respect. The department chair ultimately made the decision to cancel my Carlson Lecture, not them. The chair is a good person, but made a bad decision under pressure in this case.

Systemically I’d like people to try to be aware of how this (doesn’t) play out the same in the national media coverage compared to recent conservative side cancellations. It’s the one sided media attention that makes it possible for people to act as if cancel culture is one sided

My Google Fu can usually find something. I know it’s only been a day, but is there a single report on it anywhere? MIT isn’t Evergreen College.

I still see zero mainstream reporting on the Abbot case. This is why a bunch of the center left thinks cancellation is only from the right—center left outlets refuse to report mid level left wing cases.

I don't pretend to know why the Abbot case isn't being widely reported, though most likely it's because it's considered a very minor story. But your theory is insane to me. People of all non-far-left stripe overwhelmingly believe that cancellation comes solely from the Left.

I don’t know what circle you’re talking about but people like Jeet Heer and the left-side of the NYT appear to believe it is a right wing phenomenon. (They publicly profess to believe that firings like McNeil and McCammond arent cancel culture at all).

Um, I've never said it's just a right-wing phenomenon. I just think that these cases are few in number. I would have preferred if McNeil hadn't quit, so his case could've been fought out.

He did fight it out. The union abandoned him the second time around.

Also do you agree that the McNeil case is a cancel culture case?
