I mean, progressives have a political theory that goes like this: do super-popular things & that gives you the leverage to do other things that aren't popular but you feel are necessary. What is the moderate equivalent? What do they want that you couldn't get from moderate GOP?

Moderates in swingy districts see political office not as a short opportunity to achieve meaningful change for their constituents, but a job interview for their cushy consultant gigs at Shell and Lockheed-Martin.

It does seem fairly obvious to me that sinema basically became a senator for no other reason other than to eventually get a cushy 7 figure job for some think tank or as a talking head on cable news or something.

their theory of political change is that politics don't change and that talk of change is insidious.

I honestly don’t think Sinema and manchin should be thought of as people who have forward looking agendas aimed as human prosperity. But if we think of moderates who do have that emphasis, I would look at Bennet and klob who seem willing to do procedurally big things!

And are willing for expansive fiscal policy although not as much as the CPC or justice dems

The answer is that Matty Y can never say the obvious answer because he likes the rich people pretending he's a serious thinker too much to say "their goal is to make hundred millionaires like them so they sell the US state to capitalists."

Aren't they just opposed to it? Don't they just want to "solve problems" without political change? So they would naturally gravitate to the issues that arouse the least public interest one way or the other.

I mean, I think the answer is that they don't want anything to change and they don't want to do anything or have to do actual work. It's hard to conclude anything other than if their large donors are happy then they don't care if they keep congress or not.
