cue my stock comment about how maybe expecting people to produce a piece of opinion writing worth reading every single week is unrealistic (even for *good* writers); publications would do better to have a pool larger than the number of slots and just pick the good ones to run

This would also allow a more meaningful feedback cycle to actually filter out the bad content because not everything would need to be, or expected to be, published.
