the mass politics of Met Gala couture! I know it's dumb to obsess over it but this is something unknown to human history before this decade. Something only a thoroughly brahminized, NGOified Left could even imagine, never mind executehttps://twitter.com/evanlweber/status/1437820691089403913 …

why is nobody mentioning that "tax the rich" is a 10+ month campaign with merch on her website & pretending like 'the dress' happened in a vacuum & on its own? it's step # whatever in an ongoing campaign of clothing that says "tax the rich," not a stand alone message

one thing that is a little odd to me is how little the Bernie movement has embraced AOC or any of the younger progressive politicians in the party.
-
It's because many of those supporters were primarily interested in Sanders as a left-wing anti-establishment figure rather than a reformist legislator

don't really care that she went to the gala, but people trying so hard to defend that cringe dress being framed as a couture 'protest' by retconning it into effective left organizing are really going to places
-
Exactly, there would be nothing to complain about if she just went, but trying to contort this display of decadence into a protest makes a mockery of the principles she claims to stand for

thing’s a pretty good barometer of who on the Left most values reaching the masses & who prioritizes purity politics.
My cards on the table: disrupting elite spaces & hacking culture to get our message to more ppl absolutely rules & we should do more of it.
