“This book making the case the War on Terror is a bipartisan failure is too mean to the Dems, who did their very best.”

Beyond Tepperman scolding Ackerman for being too mean to Democrats, you also have him lecturing Spencer for not telling readers that it was "economic anxiety" among white voters that paved the way for Trump:pic.twitter.com/0E0fAxts8m

I like how tries to separate “the election of the country’s first black president” from “the rise of white nationalism”

The entire book is a case for clearly defining the goals and enemies before going to war. That the the former editor and chief of foreign policy at the New York Times doesn’t see that explains a lot about the current mess and gives me little hope anything will improve.

The tone policing is less bothersome than the implied conclusion that any alternative policy would have been at least as bad.https://twitter.com/j_tepperman/status/1428307085448601612 …

This is a typical
@nytimes review that cannot rebut the substance or the facts, so instead it focuses on other areas, and as I expected, the direct criticism of the paper and its editor might be a key factor behind the skeptical tone of the review.pic.twitter.com/Alx4dNZX7B

In his final sentence, the reviewer almost lays some blame for vicious criminal actions like those of Bush, Cheney, Trump, etc. on the author, quite a trick, isn't it?pic.twitter.com/QB384u9uBH

Sure it was a disaster, but how dare you blame anybody for it.
