        More Middle Eastern instability possibly leading to another refugee crisis involving Europe? That's the only answer I can think of that doesn't involve British humiliation for having followed the US there in the first place.

        Because they mostly don’t have to fight it or pay for it, and it solves the problem of what to do with all the lost war refugees that they don’t want to have to accept.
