      1. Ryan Crocker, former ambassador to Afghanistan under Barack Obama, has a NY Times piece which is a perfect distillation of the ridiculous new Blob conventional wisdom that Afghanistan could have been a long-term intervention like South Korea or Germany but Biden fucked it up

      2. Crocker's crock: "Biden’s decision to withdraw all U.S. forces destroyed an affordable status quo that could have lasted indefinitely at a minimum cost in blood and treasure." Affordable for whom? At whose minimum cost?pic.twitter.com/wxNd9JtDKH

"We had a sustainable equilibrium!" is doing the same work for Afghanistan that "The surge worked!" did for Iraq: an easily disprovable lie that will continue to be repeated because it provides desperately needed cover for so many.

Is this administration would own at least part of what went wrong, I may start to give them some benefit of the doubt. But “That was four or five days ago” and “Trump’s made us powerless” make it hard to see their perspective

Has anyone looked into the logistical issues with Afghanistan and how that has affected the situation since 2015?

"What changed?" Trump made a deal with the Taliban that signalled the end of American support for the central government.

Did you see Crocker's appearance w/ @Acosta yesterday?! He was peevish, barking at Acosta: "Get real!" when Acosta pushed him for specifics on just how this was supposed to all work given the givens. #DCBrain #FallaciousGroupthink #BushCheneyRumsfeldAfghanistanDisaster

What is a "minimum cost" in blood? 240 Americans a year? How many Afghans? Who decides whats "affordable"? The Blob? Don't the American people have a say? Congress has evaded responsibility for 20 years.

If it's affordable, all he has to do is sign a $50 billion check and send it to the Pentagon (or, I guess, Erik Prince.)
