The very same Ryan Crocker who in a 2012 speech to the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace claimed Afghan security forces were capable & multifaceted. He was wrong about that... and a whole lot of other stuff.
And now they're going to help the GOP win the 2022 midterms and 2024 election because Biden ended the forever war.
The short memory of the public....
After the error of invading, a sine qua non for such a sustained presence would have been creation of an actual government (at least of substance akin to Japan & Germany).... not a charade with haberdasher Karzai preening in reflections of vacuity.
He does know that the US military has zero function running South Korea or Germany ? Outside of maneuvers here and there the US troops don't really do a much besides the usual general US imperialism thing. In Afghanistan US presense was the reason government was in power at all
I believe he was put in place by Bush. It's not inaccurate to say that Biden retained him, but I think noting that he was a Bush guy is key context when evaluating his credibility and potential biases.
