Twenty years isn't just a generation. For a lot of reporters, especially now prominent ones, did spend time there or covered the story for a while. Maybe embedded reporting by wasn't a great development. But I get that they care about people they know and the country in general

One problem with this latest excuse for traditional media’s outrageous behavior- the “but we care about Afghans!” mindset was nonexistent before the withdrawal. Literally minutes of coverage total per year, for years. But sure, those reporters really care. Uh huh.
