Buckley's "setting the boundaries of conservatism" basically amounted to "here is who I, William F. Buckley, Jr., the wealthy New York intellectual conservative, do not want to sit with at a dinner party."

One gets the impression that the proto-alt-right figures who blame Buckley for destroying their careers (although they still very much had/have renumerative jobs) really also just meant they weren't invited to the right cocktail parties.
