Watched it a few years ago before I'd had any exposure to the books. Only things I remember are how viscerally unpleasant all the Harkonnen scenes are and how much Lynch cribbed from Lawrence of Arabia for the action scenes

It’s easy to forgive cribbing from David Lean because 1) Lawrence of Arabia is a brilliant film, and 2) even the novel Dune seems to crib from that film.
