2. The White House thinking on this is wrong but it's worth exploring on its own terms. The implicit assumption is the economics is more important for Dems winning future elections (something that is arguably true) & Dems can overcome voter suppression with organization.

3. The problem with the "focus on economy" is that you have to do both: for Dems to win, they'll need a strong economy but that's hardly sufficient since voter suppression, gerrymandering etc can over come that.

4. The problem with "we can out organize voter suppression" is that it's literally not true -- even under existing rules Dems can and do win majorities & get shut out of power, which is likely to get worse with new anti-majoritarian push.

5. Moreover "we can out organize voter suppression" is self-defeating: to out organize you need motivated base. Having a White House that de-prioritizes voting rights will demoralize that base. You can have 100% turn out in a gerrymandered district and it won't matter, joe. I am dumb and even I can figure that out

This is about competing political elites making sure they control the game. The know they will be winners regardless of which one is in power. They both lose if the game is opened up and control becomes more diffuse.
