Historically the right has typically seen itself as embodying the "real" nation, a tendency which has had to be submerged by democratic norms whereby parties serve as temporary governments & loyal oppositions. But the nationalist instinct is now swamping those norms.

I dislike Bibbi as much as the next guy but how probable is it he’ll become PM in the next few months. This isn’t the US where you get a guaranteed 4 years

Doubt it. He can't win elections anymore. He only stayed in power the last couple of years because he already was PM before that. So he was the infinity caretaker PM. Now he can't be.
