1. I hope people read this story beyond the narrow Trumpian and anti-Trumpian frame and see why it's suggests something distressing about American democracy.https://twitter.com/CNNPolitics/status/1415464394075607041 …

Yes! I don’t get why resigning is being seen as a good thing. If they all resigned, then people would be elevated who would gladly do the coup thing. It’s odd to me. I don’t get it. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The heads of multiple branches issued statements to ignore illegal orders on the same day last year. I think most of America has been considering it for 13+ months

These are self-serving claims. I see little reason to think top military leaders were intent on stopping a Trump coup.

How would a series of resignations have helped thwart a coup? Wouldn’t Trump have just replaced everyone who resigned with loyal yes men?

Is that a failure? Well I guess so, if you honestly think humans are perfect. But I would argue it's a natural consequence that at times might happen with human societies even if they are a democracy. Probably BECAUSE it's a democracy.

The “massive failure of democracy” would have been if they hadn’t.
