Two of my great-grandfathers had wives who died (one in childbirth, one in the Spanish Flu) and then married the younger sisters of the wives who died. The past is a foreign country.

Ironically, sororate marriage like this has a tumultuous history in Christianity. Widows marrying brothers=ok, but widowers marrying sisters is more frowned upon
