This is a weird inversion of the type of conservatism that one saw in 1930s/1940s in figures like Pegler or Harold Gray (Little Orphan Annie), who extolled FBI & often thought local cops were corrupt goons.https://twitter.com/kept_simple/status/1412818208944496641 …

This is the same issue since the Civil War through Reagan to Obama: local control is preferred by those who currently control the local governments, federal authorities are seen as an enemy.

Local cops for decades, rightfully, were perceived this way. There’s a great book out there for someone to write about the forces responsible for rehabilitating the image of police forced and shaping the current status quo version of cops as clean and the good guys.

In the 90s, G G Liddy broadcast instructions on how to best shoot federal agents. Hating on the feds isn't a recent phenomenon.

They're just shifting their political activism to the local level, where they can control the levers of government to enact their agenda. Here's an example.https://theparadiseprogressive.home.blog/2021/07/07/sanctuary-in-america-haven-or-insurrection-by-other-means/ …

It's interesting to watch Gray's views develop. Up to somewhere in the early 30s, he saw farm people as the salt of the earth, and after that time, they mostly become yokels, and Annie comments on their closed-mindedness and compares them unfavorably with city folks.
