I deleted my earlier movie-theater tweet because after consulting Wikipedia, I realized that incident must have happened while seeing Superman 2! But I also remember the first one as wonderful and romantic: gonna rewatch it in Donner’s honor.

I always thought Donner's brilliant stroke was making and consuming human meat balls.

IMHO the first Donner Superman movie is still my favorite superhero movie. HOWEVER there is a weird prologue at the very beginning where they explain that in the 1930s newspapers were very important and it baffles me why it’s there.

Yes. Also good timing with the era’s deep-nostalgia big-budget revival of another 1930s-40s genre, B-movie fantasy/adventure—Star Wars the year before Superman, Indiana Jones three years after.

Reeves said he based his performance of Clark Kent off Cary Grant in Bringing Up Baby, which makes it really the only Superman movie where Clark feels like a completely different character than Kal-El and you get why people don't suspect they're the same guy. Donner was the best

Jeet, my good man: Donner did a great job, but there are these chaps we call "screenwriters" who made Superman into a screwball comedy, i.e. Mario Puzo, David Newman, Leslie Newman & Robert Benton. Maybe you've heard of them?
