Remarkably Plato, Kant, Heidegger etc. are also dead and still exert an influence in academia.

The notion that Kant is fascist is utterly risible.

The claim is that Kant was a biological racist. Which is true.

You really haven't been near a college in a long time if you think you have a leg to stand on in this argument. You should just withdraw ur absurd claim. As I said, you;'re right about Schmitt and arguably Heidegger. That should be enough to dispute Hanania

I hasten to add before u inflict more conceptual confusion here that the claim you should withdraw is the claim from earlier in the thread, about Kant being offered as political exemplar. Ofc he was a biological racist but that's peripheral to your argument abt university norms

nice grab. it makes Jeet's claim even weaker, which didn't seem possible a moment ago

The fact that Kant became slightly less racist over time is nice, I guess. Not relevant to question of whether he was racist (yes), whether he is taught in academia today (yes), whether he should be taught (yes). All of which responds to original contention.

No. You are simply pretending this is an argument about whether Kant is taught. It is not that, as most ppl observing have noticed. It is an argument about whether Kant is taught for his (to use an anachronism) right-wing beliefs. The answer to that is ofc that he is not.

I'd say the biggest legacy of Kant's racism is less whats taught about Kant and more that Kant's general idea of the history of "Western philosophy" was very racist and still heavily influences what is thought of as the canon

Excellent point.

It’s really not. Kant was a man of his time but for an educated German of his time that meant significant engagement with eastern thought to the extent it was available to him. Attributing to him the idea that non-Western thought was per se inferior is inaccurate.
