I liked the part about how a superior society exports its culture abroad as a sign of its superiority. That is another way of looking at the drive for the Iraq war and it makes a lot of sense seeing the domestic incentives to be for the war in order to demonstrate confidence.

Strauss was the more interesting read bc of his belief in the hidden or esoteric meanings that philosophers would place between the lines of their work. Something he himself plied, though not subtly. Persecution and the Art of Writing is prlly the best of his work
