right. I'm also put in mind of the right's attitude toward cops -- a weepy Thin Blue Line shtick until some (halfheartedly) interfered with the putsch, in which case they were fair game for assault

there's enough complexity & tension w/in the officer class that they can be flattened into either villains or heroes depending on utility, but when officers are actual subject of attention, the internal divisions are serious
