yeah true but I'm thinking there's still a general cultural tendency of attachment to "the troops" against both their civilian leadership and the generals that you could see in the right's response to Vietnam for example

I think "attacked" is probably too strong of a word but they resent that the officer class generally believes in liberal governance.
