I had a prof at Ithaca College who was as much of a "Western Civ" booster as Bloom. I loaned him my copy of Closing, which I loved. His response: "In that chapter on rock music, he's being an old fuddy-duddy."

It's the weakest part of the book. I remember in Q&A period, a few people brought up fact that focusing on Stones (in 1987) was very dated and partial.
