Interesting thread. I've only read some of these laws, but they do seem to have loopholes and to not always do exactly what proponents or opponents suggest. The ones I've read are largely messaging bills with provisos cynically put in as ways to avoid implementation. But even messaging bills can have a chilling effect and it would only take a handful of activists to use bills to make teachers fearful about talking about racism.

Also as messaging bills they cynically create strawmen which aren't stuff that is being taught but has a caricatured family resemblance some of it. Trolling in other words. I feel like this sort of stuff is poisoning the well if discourse and should be condemned as such.
