People obsessing over superficial pop culture generally is. And maybe to a lesser extent, people obsessing over other people’s obsession with superficial pop culture is also a mistake.

It's part of the whole "adults never need to grow up" movement mistake. There used to be an age where we eased past video games, celebrity worship, cartoons and various other things that are now geared specifically to older people who never graduated past flatulence jokes.

There's a difference between the kind of stories that adults want in their superhero content and adult content.

I think there’s an argument to be made that superheroes originally intended for kids for adults was a mistake, but I instinctively flinch at the idea of limits on art. I can’t immediately think of a genre that should be age-limited other than pornography.

I think Nancy Drew for adults might be a mistake (though Chelsea Cain’s CONFESSIONS OF A TEEN SLEUTH is an argument against that, even), but crime fiction for adults is not. Genres are vessels, they can hold content for any kind of audience.
