This has been clear since the aughts. There a certain segment of Gen X that didn’t want to let go of the toys that were handed to us, didn’t want to share them with their kids.

I think you’ve been reading the wrong comic books for adults. Check out the original Sandman series by Neil Gaimon. That should change your mind.
