Or if I made a philosophical critique of meritocracy (of the kind which is common) as being impossible or having a status quo bias. That would also violate this bill. pic.twitter.com/lv7cz2KS0F

Why would critiquing the idea of meritocracy as impossible necessarily mean defining it as "inherently racist or sexist"?

Not necessarily so but that's one direction argument can legitimately take.

Sure - and this law would ban K-12 teachers from making that argument. Or, rather, it would ban them from "promoting" it, so they could theoretically bring it up as an example of a line of criticism some have mounted against meritocracy. But that would be a tricky line to walk.

What does "promoting" mean in a classroom context? Did Socrates promote the idea that Gods were fictional or was he just asking questions? You can't say something is a plausible debating point without promoting it.

It means including it (in curriculum, reading, etc) in a way that could give rise to the appearance of support. Aka completely undefined and 100% going to chill speech.https://twitter.com/conor64/status/1404550352364470273?s=19 …

          Replying to @staxringold @HeerJeet and

As you said, if a teacher floats racism/sexism as maybe underlying meritocracy, how is that NOT promoting it under this definition? Teachers don't usually present ideas in their classroom that have no support.
