2. A crucial move people need to make in the "democracy is under threat" discussion is to recognize the Democrats as they currently exist aren't up to the job. You can, if inclined, make excuses (Manchin, senate etc). But conclusion is still the same: not up to the job.

I think the only solution is that the American business community realize that upending a presidential election will mean a global economic catastrophe that makes the great depression/great recession look like boom times.
