Is China really producing 500 million vaccines a month as Dean notes here? That seems like a huge story that's not getting much attention.https://twitter.com/DeanBaker13/status/1401595147679240193 …

It looks like New York Times reporters are still prohibited from mentioning China's vaccines https://cepr.net/does-the-new-york-times-prohibit-its-reporters-from-mentioning-chinas-vaccines/ …

honestly isn't one of the big stories that these vaccines maybe don't work as well? like chile and uruguay have very high covid rates but also high vaccination rates -- with mostly chinese vaccines. no idea if that's the whole story but it's weird nobody's reporting it?

You can still catch/transmit COVID even when vaccinated.

Maybe the NYT isn’t mentioning it, but other outlets are covering them. The challenge is the lack of transparency and efficacy rates that seem to be all over the place.https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-55212787 …

I am a big supporter of vaccines, but the Russians and Chinese need to release more data to build confidence. Game changer? Who can tell?

Aren't they far less effective against the delta variant compared to pfizer et al? That's what the data was suggesting earlier, or has that changed?

A two ate vaccine that requires -50 deg freezing is not going to vaccinate the world.

it's based on the vaccination rate that is being reported from Our World in Data -- they have about 460 million in the last month, so unless they had a huge stockpile, that must be close to current production (also some went abroad) https://ourworldindata.org/covid-vaccinations …

I just dove deep into the site Dean links and it doesn't seem to clearly back that up. In one area it cites 750m vaxed but also dims out that data point. Also seems like they really got vaxxing in big numbers in the last six weeks.

this AP article seems to provide actual details. Seems like Chinese are vaxxing VERY fast now. But almost all in May. Not clear to me that production is actually 500m per month vs distribution.https://www.firstpost.com/world/after-slow-start-china-catches-up-on-its-vaccination-drive-80-percent-of-population-to-be-inoculated-by-end-of-2021-9684731.html …
