2. There is no mechanism by which Trump can pull off a coup right now. For one thing he's never had the army on board. Still, as a former president with tens of millions of supporters, he could cause a lot of mischief by encouraging disorder, as on January 6.

3. Gaming out the worst case scenario: Trump runs again as GOP nominee in 2024, loses again, but has GOP House & states overturn election results (in effect a 2020 redux with a more committed GOP). That would lead to a very dark place.

He needs them to think he is going to be President again so they think he will pardon them - he doesn’t want them to talk.

The point of having Haberman report it as if he didn't intellectually understand that he wouldn't be President again in August is so liberals will assume he can't hide his cards and there's an actual conspiracy behind it.

1. GOP wins House in 2024: elect Trump Speaker Jan 3rd and NOT vote to confirm 2. GOP wins WH 2024: VP 'resigns', Trump is brought on & President 'quits'https://twitter.com/HeerJeet/status/1400552943527550983 …

as I keep saying, it's not a coup we have to worry about. it's Cyber Ninjas "proving" Trump "won" in Arizona and then Trump demanding the Biden Administration be "nullified" This, in turn, becomes a secession crisis.
-
That would be utterly stupid, a GOP suicide mission. Even assuming they could maintain the co-ordination and discipline to make an attempt, this isn't 1861 - a genuine secession attempt would be crushed within a few days at most.
