      1. Currently, the most energized mobilization on the American political right centers around fighting critical race theory (CRT) in education. The passion this arouses is all the more heated because almost no one knows what CRT is or how it relates to education.

      2. Going back 70 years, fights over public education have been the main fuel of right wing popular mobilization. Nothing gets the lizard brain in fight mode quite like fear over children being supposedly threatened: desegregation, prayer, sex ed, gay teachers, trans kids etc.

      3. The New York Times had a good piece yesterday showing how putative battles over CRT are really about a larger, more amorphous set of fears. Much of this is about catering to the anxieties about the changing demographics of America.pic.twitter.com/ErSXeyeaoF

          4. There's a school of liberal thought that says these cultural wars are just a distraction & liberals can defuse by denouncing CRT. My thoughts on why this won't work & will only entrench mythology:https://jeetheer.substack.com/p/critical-race-theory-as-a-bogeyman?r=bh54&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=email&utm_source=twitter …

Well, the LAST thing that the KKK wants is for *everything* they've been doing since the Civil War to be noticed, much less actually studied.

What about critics of CRT that feel it centers and reaffirms whiteness? It feels intentionally dishonest to critique “amorphous” fears, you’re arguing against the worst version of the opponent. Take on true critics of CRT, not fearful old politicians and dishonest charlatans

Back in the early 1990s, before there was a FOX News, the guy who started FN, Roger Ailes, produced a tv show for Rush Limbaugh. Limbaugh had a beef with black academics and black studies programs. He said black profs were thugs who forced their way into academia. Go from that.

It's interesting not only that the concepts being banned aren't inherent in any way to CRT, but also that banning those concepts in no way the prevents teaching the other - entirely different! - ideas mentioned by the quoted GOP legislator! Where is 'privilege', etc., banned?
