Ferguson makes a somewhat different argument. In her view, many of the initiatives (like Community Development), put in place as instantiations of establishment liberalism of the 1960s, end up perfectly compatible with the conservative turn, black entrepreneurship, etc.

But there certainly is backlash to the foundations in lots of corners; like with Albert Shanker and the UFT, where Ford was lined up behind community control of schools
