Those Knight endowed chairs have carried tenure with them before, to no complaints. I mean you can question the system, but this is what's in place.

Well her prizes political, not merit based, so denying tenure on political grounds would be totally legit.

Is it normal ? Surely someone can cite examples of other big name journos with similar credentials getting tenure at other high profile educational institutions. This shouldn’t be that hard for a journal to research and come up with at least one example
