I swear I have not fully devoted the necessary attention and cognitive energy to this topic but my peripheral sense is that UFO's are clearly real? And have been hanging around our airspace for a while?

UFOs just means unidentified. Obviously there are flying objects we can't identify. They may be ETs but that's really, really unlikely.

I have a podcast coming up about the theology of UFOs which might cheer you up.

Is this like a "this is scaring me make it all go away" podcast? Its like the Catholic church refusing to look into Galileo's telescope.

The Church encouraged Galileo to continue his work to prove his two theories before claiming the as truth. It was the academics of the day that mocked Galileo, not the Church who was pro-science. One of Galileo's theories (sun was the center of the universe) turned out wrong.

While I wouldn't doubt the material implications of UFO claims, there is of course the legacy of fairy lore that was similarly dismissed... In classical theology, fairies were the progeny of spirits (i.e., 'gods', titans, etc.) that didn't remain angels or become demons...

I remember all the stuff in '70s when I was a kid, supposing aliens might've been the early gods. Notwithstanding Star Trek's prime directive, it's not impossible that glimpses of flying objects or even personages could've influenced our ancestors. Easy to dismiss, and yet...

Nah. We’re just that desperate & gullible that we believe the first guy to come along who promises us death isn’t the end of everything.
