There is a respectability politics to this UFO business. If it's some farmer in a pick-up truck who say he was probed , we dismiss it. If it's a naval pilot with a photo, it makes New York Times, New Yorker, 60 Minutes.

The universe is likely filled to the brim with single-celled organisms that get Great Filtered on the way to the eukaryotic. Certainly makes more sense than magic aliens using magic technology to make stupid drive-bys of the Earth for no reason at all.

You’re correct about the respectability politics component. But ignorant of the political and cultural history re: UFOs and UAP other than what you’ve seen on tabloids, in movies, and infotainment sideshow nonsense.

But even then, only to an extent. There are many PHD accredited scientists, several astronauts, innumerable military personnel, and at least two former presidents who either had an exotic sighting of their own OR follow(ed) the subject closely.
